No New Clues In Boy's Disappearance

No New Clues In Boy's Disappearance

Near Klamath Falls -- It's been four years since 8-year-old Derrick Engebretson disappeared while hunting for Christmas trees with his father in the snowy woods near Klamath Falls.

His family and some volunteers continue to search. Saturday, a group of volunteers concentrated on one clue: The boy was carrying a hatchet when he vanished.

In the initial search, Derrick's grandfather had noticed a hole in the ice over a shallow lake, but divers failed to turn up evidence Derrick fell in. In Saturday's search, Portland diver Jeff Preece brought an underwater metal detector to the lake to search for the hatchet.

Preece spent several hours carefully working his way through the shallow water. He found several metal objects, including an oil filter and a metal road sign. But no hatchet.
