Family Calls Off Search For Boy

ROCKY POINT, Ore. - After nearly two weeks of scouring the snowy mountains, an anguished mother told volunteers to go home from their hunt for her 8-year-old son who vanished during the family's Christmas-tree hunt.

Wearing a yellow ribbon to signify her hope of finding the boy, Lori Engebretson told them "to go home and take care of your own families."

She said the family will break camp on Sunday but will continue to search the area from time to time.

Derrick Engebretson, a third-grader nicknamed "Bear Boy" for his love of the outdoors, disappeared Dec. 5 while looking for a tree with his father and grandfather in the Winema National Forest.
